Technology incorporated into the classroom serves as a benefit to all students in Art class. Many students feel they do not have the talent to draw so digital art is a great source for all students. There are many web-based software tools that are helpful in letting students create online. I have also found that the autistic child in my class has issues with holding pencils or paint brushes, and this causes frustrations for the child. This child doesn’t write well, so art is more difficult. He is also very intelligent and does well using computers and utilizes Science and Math on the computer. So, to create an interest in Art for him, I brought into the classroom digital art.

Night time Art: Artist-Vincent Van Gogh, The Starry Night

Q. Students think about your favorite place to go. Imagine how the imagined place looks at different times of the day or, in different weather conditions as snowy, rainy, or sunny. How does the effect of light affect the colors you see?

Students will view ‘’The Starry Night” on the Smart Board.

Discuss: What time of day was this painting?

Students will create a masterpiece using a photo choice. Software Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or Hyperstudio to complete assignment.

Rationale: There is two fundamental concepts learned about the basic paint tools in the software tool. First, students will become familiar with the tools and techniques in the software program. So, they will better understand the program and not get frustrated in using the tools to do project. Students will also learn the method of seriation term, that means creating a similar work of art in a series. The last is technology allows artists to save their digital art that was in progress, work on alternate compositions, color schemes, and techniques without deleting the original art. What I enjoy about digital art is digital software connects with the past as used in the lesson of Van Gogh, who is considered one of the greats. I must say, one advantage to an art teacher in using digital art, there is no mess to clean up afterwards.

Objective: Students learn how to paint light and how weather setting affect perception of color, create a digital painting to show daylight using digital software.

The website will be put into my computer, using Smart Board to show students the paintings of Van Gogh.

Vincent Van Gogh: Amsterdam Light Festival is an exhibit located in Paris, France at the Les Baux-de-Provence and it runs through Dec 31^st of this year. The starry night Stereo VR (Virtual Realty) experience, you can literally walk through the buildings and be in the Art according to, “Van Gogh Starry Night Exhibit at Amsterdam Light Festival, (2019)”.

Association:

Have students name a place. Then, the whole class shut their eyes, and tell what the main colors are and imagine what it would look like in the day, and then, the night.
